Carlo Goldoni was born in Venice in 1707 and died in Paris in 1793. He held a doctorate in law and also served as Genoa’s honorary consul in Venice. As a playwright, he initiated a reform of the theater in Venice and wrote numerous comedies, tragedies, and librettos. His best-known works include *The Servant of Two Masters*, *Mirandolina*, *The Liar*, and *The Coffee House*.
