Barbara Kleiner

Barbara Kleiner (born 1952) holds a doctorate in German and Romance studies. She studied German, Romance languages and comparative literature, worked as an editor and lecturer at several universities, and became a freelance literary translator from Italian in 1993. Authors she translated include Primo Levi, Ippolito Nievo, Italo Svevo, Elio Vittorini, Paolo Giordano, Davide Longo and Giulia Caminito. Her awards include the NRW Translator’s Prize in 2007, the German-Italian Translator’s Prize in 2011 and the Johann Heinrich Voß Prize for Translation in 2021.
