Luigi Pirandello

Luigi Pirandello (1867–1936) was an Italian writer and dramatist. Born in Agrigento, Sicily, he studied Romance philology in Rome and Bonn. He later worked as a freelance writer and journalist and taught Italian literature. In addition to novels and the short-story cycle “Novels for a Year,” he wrote numerous plays. He achieved international renown with “Six Characters in Search of an Author” (1921). In 1925 he founded the Teatro d’Arte in Rome. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1934.
