Gunnar Skirbekk was a professor of philosophy of science at the University of Bergen, where he founded the Centre for the Study of the Sciences. He studied in Oslo, Paris, and Tübingen. During the Vietnam War, in 1966 and 1967, he worked as a research assistant to Herbert Marcuse at the University of California, San Diego. He subsequently held numerous visiting professorships abroad. His writings have been published in more than 20 languages. His works include “Praxeologie der Moderne. Universalität und Kontextualität der diskursiven Vernunft” (2003).
