Karl Raimund Popper (1902–1994) was an Austrian-British philosopher and the founder of critical rationalism. His work focused chiefly on the philosophy of knowledge and science, as well as social, historical and political philosophy. He emigrated to New Zealand in 1937 and taught there until 1945. He later became Professor of Logic and Scientific Method at the London School of Economics, serving from 1949 until his retirement in 1969. In 1965, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II. His works include *The Self and Its Brain* (with John C. Eccles), *In Search of a Better World* and *All Life Is Problem Solving*.
