Elisabeth Plessen

Elisabeth Plessen (born 1944 in Neustadt in Holstein) is a German writer and literary translator. She studied history, philosophy and German literature in Paris and Berlin and completed her doctorate under Walter Höllerer. She made her debut in 1976 with the novel »Mitteilung an den Adel«. Her other works include »Ida«, »Kohlhaas« and »Die Unerwünschte«. Together with Ernst Schnabel, she translated works by Ernest Hemingway; she also translated plays by William Shakespeare, Henrik Ibsen and Sarah Kane into German. She received the German Critics’ Prize in 1976 and the Droste Prize of the City of Meersburg in 1988.
