Marius von Mayenburg was born in Munich in 1972. He studied medieval literature, or Old German studies, in Munich and Berlin before studying playwriting at the Berlin University of the Arts. His first play, “Fireface” (“Feuergesicht”), won the Kleist Prize for Young Dramatists in 1997 and the Frankfurter Autorenstiftung Prize in 1998. In 1999, he was named Young Playwright of the Year in a critics’ poll by the magazine Theater heute. Von Mayenburg worked as a playwright, translator and director. His best-known plays include “Fireface,” “Perplex,” “The Martyr,” “Plastic” and “Peng.” His works have been translated into numerous languages and performed internationally.
