Sarah Kane

Sarah Kane (1971–1999) was an English playwright and director. She studied in the drama departments of the universities of Bristol and Birmingham. The premiere of her debut play Blasted caused a scandal in England and established her as an important dramatist of the 1990s. At London’s Gate Theatre, she directed the premiere of her second play, Phaedra’s Love, as well as Georg Büchner’s Woyzeck. She also wrote the screenplay Skin, which was adapted for film by Channel Four/British Screen. Kane died by suicide in February 1999.
