Anne D. Peiter

Anne D. Peiter (born 1973) is a Germanist. She studied German, history, philosophy and German as a foreign language in Münster, Rome, Paris and Berlin. Her doctoral dissertation, »Komik und Gewalt« (Comedy and Violence), examined the literary treatment of the two world wars and the Holocaust. In 2018, she completed her habilitation at the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris with a study of violence in texts, films and photographs in the contexts of National Socialism, colonialism and the Cold War. Peiter worked as a lecturer in German studies at the University of La Réunion, where she also headed the Department of German. Her research has focused on the history of modern violence as well as Holocaust and exile literature.
