Rainer Moritz

Rainer Moritz, born in Heilbronn in 1958, is a German author, literary critic and translator. He earned a doctorate with a study of Hermann Lenz and worked as an editor and chief editor at Reclam Leipzig before becoming managing director of the publishing program at Hoffmann und Campe. From 2005 to 2025, he headed the Literaturhaus Hamburg. Moritz translated works from French, including books by Françoise Sagan, Pierre Bost and Georges Simenon, and wrote numerous books on subjects including football, popular music and Parisian parks, as well as a biography of Richard Yates. As a teenager, he trained to become a football referee.
