Anita Albus

Anita Albus (1942–2024) was a German painter and writer. She studied graphic arts at the Folkwang School in Essen and became particularly known for her widely exhibited, trompe-l’œil-like depictions of nature. She published books combining images and texts, as well as a novel, stories, and essays. Her works include *Von seltenen Vögeln* (2005), *Das botanische Schauspiel* (2007), *Im Licht der Finsternis. Über Proust* (2011), *Sonnenfalter und Mondmotten* (2019), and *Affentheater* (2022). In 1989, she compiled a selection from Hans Magnus Enzensberger’s diaries for the series *Die Andere Bibliothek* and translated the texts. Albus was a member of the German Academy for Language and Literature. Her honors included the Friedrich Märker Prize for Essay Writing, the Johann Heinrich Merck Prize, and the Bavarian Maximilian Order for Science and Art.
