Christoph Ransmayr, born in 1954 in Wels, Upper Austria, is an Austrian writer. His best-known novels include *The Terrors of Ice and Darkness*, *The Last World*, *Morbus Kitahara*, *The Flying Mountain*, *Cox or The Course of Time*, and *The Master Builder*. He also published works including *Atlas of an Anxious Man*, *Ladies and Gentlemen Under Water*, and *Medicine for Mortality*, as well as poetry and short fiction. His books have been translated into more than thirty languages. Ransmayr has received numerous literary awards, including the Franz Kafka Prize, the Kleist Prize, the Premio Mondello, the Bertolt Brecht Literature Prize, and the Park Kyung-ni Prize.
