Jean-Henri Fabre (1823–1915) was a French entomologist and author. He initially worked as a teacher in Ajaccio and later as a physics professor in Avignon. From 1870 onward, he devoted himself exclusively to observing insects. His major work, the Souvenirs entomologiques (Entomological Memories), began appearing in 1879 in several installments and was translated into numerous languages. Fabre is regarded as one of the pioneers of the study of animal behavior.
