Judith Schalansky (born 1980 in Greifswald) is a writer, book designer, and editor. She studied art history and communication design. Her best-known works include Atlas of Remote Islands (2009), the novel The Giraffe’s Neck (2011), and An Inventory of Losses (2018). Her books have been translated into more than 20 languages and have received numerous awards. Atlas of Remote Islands and The Giraffe’s Neck were each named a “Most Beautiful German Book” by the Stiftung Buchkunst; in 2018, she received the Wilhelm Raabe Prize for An Inventory of Losses.
