Wolfram Koch was born in Paris in 1962 and trained at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts. His theatre career included engagements at the Freie Volksbühne, the Schiller Theater in Berlin, Schauspiel Frankfurt and Schauspielhaus Bochum, where he was a permanent ensemble member from 1995 to 2000. He made his film debut in 1975, at the age of thirteen, playing Hans in the adaptation of Heinrich Böll’s »The Clown«. He became widely known as police commissioner Paul Brix in the Frankfurt-based series »Tatort«, a role he played from 2015 to 2023, and as Magnus Nielsen in the series »Dark«. In 2017, he received the Grimme Award for his performance in »Dead Man Working«. Koch also worked as a narrator on numerous audiobook and radio-play productions.
