Ulrike Ackermann is a political scientist and sociologist. In 2008, she was appointed professor of political science with a focus on research into and theories of liberty, and taught in Heidelberg until 2014. She founded the John Stuart Mill Institute for the Study of Freedom and took on its direction. In 2002, she also founded and directed the European Forum at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. Ackermann has also worked as an author for radio and print media.
