His debut, »Männer machen Fehler«, was published in 1932 and burned by the Nazis in 1933 as so-called “degenerate literature.” Becher left Germany, lived in several European cities, and fled to Brazil in 1941. He moved to New York in 1944, returned to Europe in 1948, and settled in Basel in 1954. His best-known works include the novel »Murmeljagd«, published in 1969.
