Thomas Thieme (born 1948 in Weimar) is a German actor. He studied at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Art in Berlin and began his career at theatres in Magdeburg, Halle and Frankfurt am Main. From 1990 to 1993, he was a member of the ensemble at Vienna’s Burgtheater, followed by an engagement at Berlin’s Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz from 1993 to 1997. Thieme has played numerous classical stage roles, including Faust, Lear and Richard III. He was named Actor of the Year in 2000 for his performance as Richard III. He became widely known through film and television roles, including appearances in “Downfall” and “The Lives of Others.” In 2014, he received the Goldene Kamera award for Best German Actor. He also worked as a narrator for audiobooks and radio plays.
