Stephan Lessenich (born in Stuttgart in 1965) is a German sociologist. He has held professorships at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and Goethe University Frankfurt and directed Frankfurt’s Institute for Social Research. From 2013 to 2017, he served as chair of the German Sociological Association. His research has focused on social inequality, the welfare state, capitalism and social transformation, and the sociology of aging. His publications include Die Neuerfindung des Sozialen (2008), Neben uns die Sintflut. Die Externalisierungsgesellschaft und ihr Preis (2016), and Nicht mehr normal (2022).
