Hartmut Rosa, born in 1965 in Germany’s Black Forest, is a sociologist. In 2005, he became Professor of General and Theoretical Sociology at Friedrich Schiller University Jena; from 2013, he also headed the Max Weber Kolleg at the University of Erfurt. He earned his doctorate at Humboldt University of Berlin in 1997 and completed his habilitation in sociology and political science in Jena in 2004. His best-known works include “Acceleration” (2005), “Acceleration and Alienation” (2013), “Resonance” (2016), and “Unavailability” (2018). His honors include the Tractatus Essay Prize, the Erich Fromm Prize, the Paul Watzlawick Honorary Ring, and the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize in 2023. Outside his academic work, he has been a heavy metal fan since his youth and played keyboard in amateur bands.
