Rosmarie Waldrop (born 1935 in Kitzingen am Main as Rosmarie Sebald) studied literature and musicology in Würzburg and Freiburg before emigrating to the United States in the late 1950s. In the 1960s, she and her husband, Keith, founded Burning Deck Press, a major publisher of poetry. She taught at several universities. Her widely honored body of work includes around 20 volumes of poetry and four essay collections. She also translated works by, among others, Friederike Mayröcker, Elke Erb, Paul Celan, and Edmond Jabès.
