Jan Kjærstad (born 1953 in Oslo) is a Norwegian writer. He studied theology, worked as a pastor and jazz pianist, and served as an editor of the Norwegian literary magazine Vinduet. His work includes novels, essays, short stories, picture books and children’s books. He received the Nordic Council’s Literature Prize. His novels include The Norman Area, Berge, Femina erecta and Mr. Woolf.
