Pamela Lyndon Travers (1899–1996) was an Australian writer. She moved to England in 1923 and began publishing early work in George W. Russell’s magazine *The Irish Statesman*. She became known for the children’s book series about Mary Poppins, whose first volume was published in 1934. She published several sequels through 1975. The first book was adapted into a film in 1964, starring Julie Andrews in the title role.
