Oskar Negt

Oskar Negt (1934–2024) was a German sociologist and social scientist. He studied under Max Horkheimer and received his doctorate in philosophy under Theodor W. Adorno; he also earned a diploma in sociology. From 1962 to 1970, Negt worked as an assistant to Jürgen Habermas. He subsequently served as a professor of sociology in Hannover until 2002. During the 1968 student movement, he was one of the prominent voices of the extra-parliamentary opposition. In 2011, he received the August Bebel Prize for his political engagement.
