Gustav Landauer

Gustav Landauer (1870–1919) was a German theorist and activist of anarchism. Influenced by Peter Kropotkin, he advocated communist anarchism and, as a pacifist, opposed the First World War. During the revolutionary events of 1918–19, he was involved in the Munich Soviet Republic. After its violent suppression, Landauer was murdered in custody by Freikorps soldiers in 1919. In addition to writing his own works, he translated texts by, among others, Oscar Wilde and Peter Kropotkin.
