Michaela May, born in 1952 in Munich as Gertraud Elisabeth Berta Franziska Mittermayr, is a German actress. She gained her first stage experience through ballet as a child and made her film debut in 1965 in “Uncle Tom’s Cabin.” After training as a kindergarten teacher, she attended drama school and adopted the stage name Michaela May. Her breakthrough came in 1974 with Helmut Dietl’s television series “Münchner Geschichten.” She also became known for roles in “Monaco Franze,” “Kir Royal,” and as Inspector Jo Obermaier in the television crime series “Polizeiruf 110.” For the latter, she received the Grimme Award and the German Television Award. She also recorded readings of Nicola Förg’s Alpine crime novels.
