Michael Sowa (born 1945 in Berlin) was a German painter, draughtsman and illustrator. He studied art education at Berlin’s Hochschule der Künste and subsequently worked as a freelance artist. His illustrations appeared in publications including Titanic, Die Zeit and The New Yorker, as well as in numerous books and on book covers. One of his notable works, “Geflügel mit Perlen,” appeared in the film Amélie. Sowa received the Olaf Gulbransson Prize in 1995, the Berlin Book Prize in the children’s book category for “Prinz Tamino” in 2004, and the Göttinger Elch in 2013.
