Maximilian Murmann

Maximilian Murmann (born 1987) worked as a linguist and literary translator. He studied Finno-Ugric studies, general linguistics and German linguistics in Munich, Helsinki and Budapest, and received his doctorate in 2018. His translations of Finnish and Estonian literature into German include works by Jaan Kross, Karl Ristikivi, Laura Lindstedt and Juhani Karila. In 2021, he received a working grant from the Free State of Bavaria for literary translators and a literary fellowship from the City of Munich. In the winter semester of 2022–23, he was a visiting lecturer in literary translation at the University of Cologne.
