Knut Elstermann (born 1960 in Berlin) studied journalism in Leipzig and worked as an editor for various East German media, including the film magazine »Filmspiegel«. After German reunification, he worked as a freelance presenter and film journalist for radio and television, including MDR, RBB, ARD, 3sat and ARTE. He wrote numerous features and documentaries, as well as books on film and contemporary history, including »Gerdas Schweigen«, »Klosterkinder« and »Bach bewegt. Der Komponist im Film«. Elstermann was a member of the Academy of Performing Arts.
