Andreas Dresen was born in Gera in 1963. He began making his own amateur films as early as 1979. From 1986 to 1991, he studied directing at the Academy of Film and Television “Konrad Wolf” in Potsdam-Babelsberg. As a film director, he received numerous national and international awards for works including “Grill Point,” “Summer in Berlin,” “Stopped on Track,” “Gundermann,” and “Rabiye Kurnaz vs. George W. Bush.” From 1996 onward, Dresen also directed for the stage, including at the Staatstheater Cottbus and the Deutsches Theater Berlin. In 2006, he made his opera debut at Theater Basel with “Don Giovanni.”
