Klaus Hofmann

Klaus Hofmann is a German musicologist. He studied in Erlangen and Freiburg and received his doctorate in 1968 with a dissertation on compositional techniques in 13th-century motets. From 1978 to 2006, he worked at the Johann Sebastian Bach Institute in Göttingen, where he headed the editorial work on the Neue Bach-Ausgabe from 1981. In 1994, he was appointed honorary professor at the University of Göttingen. Hofmann has published extensively on Baroque music and frequently used the name addition “Herbipol,” referring to Würzburg, in his publications.
