Karin Betz

Karin Betz is a sinologist and literary translator. She translates Chinese and English literature into German, including works by Mo Yan, Liao Yiwu, Liu Cixin and Can Xue. Her translations have received several distinctions, including the Helmut M. Braem Translation Prize in 2024 and the Special Book Award of China. Her translation of Can Xue’s novel *I Love My New Millennium* was nominated for the Internationaler Literaturpreis of Berlin’s Haus der Kulturen der Welt in 2022. During a research stay in Japan, she discovered tango through the music of Astor Piazzolla; in 2001, she made her first trip to Buenos Aires.
