Born in 1948, Joachim Kalka worked as an author, critic, and translator. Among the writers he translated are Gilbert Sorrentino, Guillermo Cabrera Infante, Angela Carter, Jean Giraudoux, and Jessica Mitford. His translation work received the Johann Heinrich Voss Prize from the German Academy for Language and Literature and the Johann Friedrich von Cotta Literature and Translation Prize. Kalka was a member of the German Academy for Language and Literature and the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts. His publications include »Gaslicht«, »Die Katze, der Regen, das Totenreich«, and »Staub«.
