Jakob Tanner (born 1950) is a Swiss historian. From 1997 to 2015, he was Professor of Modern History at the University of Zurich; he was also affiliated with the university’s Research Center for Social and Economic History. His research has focused on the history of Switzerland and Europe in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, as well as the history of science, medicine, nutrition, drugs, the body, business, and finance. Tanner has received an honorary doctorate from the Faculty of Cultural and Social Sciences at the University of Lucerne and has been made an honorary member of the Swiss Social Archives in Zurich and the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences.
