Irma Wehrli

Irma Wehrli, born in Liestal in 1954, studied English, German and Romance philology at the University of Basel. From 1984 onward, she worked as a freelance translator of English-language literature. Her main focus has been English and American classics of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, as well as modernist literature. She translated works by, among others, Rudyard Kipling, Thomas Hardy, Thomas Wolfe, Walt Whitman, Katherine Mansfield, Leila Aboulela and Julie Otsuka into German. In 2011, she received the Zug Translation Scholarship for her work on Thomas Wolfe’s novel Of Time and the River.
