Julie Otsuka

Julie Otsuka, born in California in 1962, is a writer. Her debut novel, “When the Emperor Was Divine,” was published in the United States in 2002. Her second novel, “Wovon wir träumten,” appeared in German in 2012. For the work, she received the PEN/Faulkner Award and the Prix Femina, among other honors; together with her translator Katja Scholtz, she also received the Albatros Literature Prize from the Günter Grass Foundation. Otsuka was a Guggenheim Fellow.
