Franz Liszt

Franz Liszt (1811–1886) was a Hungarian composer, arranger and virtuoso pianist. He studied in Vienna with Carl Czerny and Antonio Salieri and undertook extensive concert tours across Europe. In 1842, he became court music director in Weimar. He moved to Rome in 1862 and received minor orders in 1865. Religious from an early age, Liszt composed several sacred works later in life. He was a formative figure in the development of modern piano technique and the solo piano recital.
