F. Scott Fitzgerald (1896–1940), born Francis Scott Fitzgerald, was an American writer. He studied at Princeton University and gained recognition in 1920 with his debut novel, *This Side of Paradise*. His major works include *The Beautiful and the Damned* (1922), *The Great Gatsby* (1925), and *Tender Is the Night* (1934), as well as numerous short stories. Fitzgerald is regarded as an important chronicler of the Jazz Age, and his fiction helped shape the literary image of 1920s America. From 1937 onward, he worked as a screenwriter in Hollywood.
