Franz Gmainer-Pranzl, born in 1966 in Steyr, Upper Austria, is a theologian and philosopher. He studied in Linz, Innsbruck and Vienna. He received a doctorate in theology from the University of Innsbruck in 1994 and a doctorate in philosophy from the University of Vienna in 2004. From 1991 to 1994, he was an assistant at the University of Innsbruck’s Institute of Fundamental Theology, and from 1995 to 2002 at the Institute of Dogmatics and Fundamental Theology in Linz. In 2009, he took up a professorship at the University of Salzburg, where his roles included directing the Centre for Intercultural Theology and the Study of Religions. He completed his habilitation in fundamental theology at the University of Innsbruck in 2011.
