Eva Moldenhauer

Eva Moldenhauer (1934–2019) was a German translator of French-language literary and scholarly works. From 1964 onward, she translated works by authors including Claude Simon, Jorge Semprún, Claude Lévi-Strauss, Gilles Deleuze, Ágota Kristof, and Jean-Paul Sartre into German. Her work received numerous honors, including the Helmut M. Braem Translation Prize in 1982, the Paul Celan Prize in 1991, and the Wilhelm Merton Prize in 2007. In 2005, her new translation of Claude Simon’s “The Grass” was nominated for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize. In 2012, she was also named a Chevalier of France’s Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
