Mircea Eliade

Mircea Eliade was born in Bucharest in 1907. From 1925 to 1931, he studied in Bucharest and Calcutta and spent an extended period in the Himalayan region. He also undertook extensive travels in Asia. From the 1950s until his death in 1986, he was a professor of religious studies in Chicago.
