Esther Duflo

Esther Duflo (born 1972 in Paris) is a French economist specializing in development economics and poverty alleviation. She was a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where she co-founded the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) with Abhijit V. Banerjee. Duflo received the John Bates Clark Medal in 2011 and the Princess of Asturias Award in 2015. In 2019, she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences jointly with Abhijit V. Banerjee and Michael Kremer.
