Abhijit V. Banerjee

Abhijit V. Banerjee, born in Mumbai in 1961, is an Indian economist. His career has included a professorship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Together with Esther Duflo, he researched new approaches to combating poverty. In 2019, Banerjee and Duflo were awarded the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences. Among his other distinctions is the Bernhard Harms Prize from the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, which he received in 2014.
