Eric Barnert, born in 1968, is a qualified geologist with a doctorate in mineralogy. After working in research and teaching, he became a freelance author. A long-time mountaineer, he served as caretaker of the Darmstädter Hütte in Tyrol and as chair of the German Alpine Club in Hesse. As a writer, he published the mountain novels “Kreuzkogel” and “Schneekristalle”, as well as short stories set in his native southern Hesse. Together with colleagues, he also co-authored a nonfiction book on the influence of geology and soil on wine in the Hessische Bergstraße region. In 2021, he served on the jury for the debut category of the Glauser Prize. With Michael Kibler, he co-edited the anthology “Banken, Bembel und Banditen – Mord in Rhein-Main”.
