Eduard Klopfenstein

Eduard Klopfenstein (born 1938) is a Swiss Japanologist, translator, and editor. From 1989 to 2005, he was Professor of Japanese Studies at the University of Zurich. His research focused on modern Japanese literature and poetry as well as Japanese theatre, particularly bunraku. He edited, among other publications, the Zürcher Reihe Japanischer Literatur and represented the Japanese Literature Publishing Project in the German-speaking world. He received the Order of the Rising Sun in 2010 and the Paul Scheerbart Translation Prize in 2019.
