Wakayama Bokusui (1885–1928) was a Japanese poet. He grew up in a remote valley on the island of Kyushu and published his first poetry collection while still studying in Tokyo. Soon afterward, he was regarded as one of Japan’s leading poets. His name is particularly associated with the five-line poetic form known as tanka, and his work contributed significantly to its popularity in Japan.
