Dirk van Gunsteren (born 1953) studied American studies and worked as a translator from English as well as a freelance editor. He translated works by, among others, T. C. Boyle, Jonathan Safran Foer, Thomas Pynchon, V. S. Naipaul, Philip Roth, John Irving, Patricia Highsmith, and Oliver Sacks into German. He received the Heinrich Maria Ledig-Rowohlt Prize in 2007 and the City of Munich Translator’s Prize in 2018.
