Colum McCann was born in Dublin in 1965. Before becoming known as a writer, he worked as a journalist, farm worker and teacher, and undertook extended travels through Asia, Europe and the Americas. He gained international recognition with the novels “The Dancer” and “Zoli.” His novels and stories received several literary awards, including the Hennessy Award and the Rooney Prize for Irish Literature. In 2009, he was awarded the National Book Award for “Let the Great World Spin.”
