Christoph K. Neumann (born 1962 in Braunschweig) is a German Orientalist and Turkologist. He studied Ottoman studies, Turkology, German studies and political science in Munich and Izmir, receiving his doctorate in 1992. After teaching and research positions at universities in Istanbul, he completed his habilitation in modern and contemporary history at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in 2006; in 2008 he became a professor of Turkology there. His research focused on the history and culture of the Ottoman Empire and Turkey, the history of Istanbul, and the political and memory culture of the Turkish Republic. Neumann received the Southeast Europe Society Munich Advancement Award in 1993, co-authored travel guides, and translated works from Turkish, including Orhan Pamuk’s novel “Snow”.
