Born in Zurich in 1975, Caspar Hirschi studied history and German literature at the universities of Tübingen and Fribourg. He was Professor of General History at the University of St. Gallen and taught or worked at the University of Cambridge. His research has focused on the history and theory of nationalism, the organisation of scientific institutions, and the relationship between science and politics. Hirschi has published in German and English.
